Solar activity today 27th September

Posted by

Sun radiation today was very low, there are not sunspots and they are 13 days. In these condition propagation it’s very bad in all HF band. Contacts are very limited in the morning and in the afternoon, better when it’s night. Yesterday night we have a lot of qso in ft8 mode with North and South America,: Canada, USA, Brasil and Argentina. Geomagnetic field was kp3 but it’s possible to see polar auroras, read below…

This week, geomagnetic activity has been low. There are no big holes in the sun’s atmosphere nor any streams of high-speed solar wind lashing Earth’s magnetic field. Nevertheless, Arctic sky watchers have witnessed some beautiful auroras. Why? Earth’s magnetosphere is leaking. At this time of year, “equinox cracks” allow solar wind to penetrate our magnetic defenses, sparking Northern Lights without geomagnetic storms.
